Among others, a proposal to form a committee for the association was tabled and discussed and recommendations made. The Headmaster was represented and a report from the school made by the Headmaster’s representative.
2.0 Specific Objectives of the Dinner
To bring together the old students around Kampala for easy networking.

To form an adhoc committee to draft a constitution for the association.

To formerly welcome the Headmaster as the old students’ fraternity in Kampala.

To get an updated report on the school.

To congratulate fresh graduates and recognize excellence.

To encourage and motivate branches of the association at university level.
3.0 Activities and Proceedings during the Dinner
Guests started arriving at 6:00pm and by 7:00pm, a considerable number had arrived, thus the programme/agenda kicked off promptly at 7:30pm. An opening prayer was said, after which the old students introduced themselves, the years in which they were in Kigezi High School and their current occupations. More guests arrived even after the start of the function and they introduced themselves as well. Dinner was served at 9:00pm.

3.1 Speeches
Chairman, Organizing Committee.
The Chairman organizing committee, Mr. Brian Bwesigye thanked God, all old students who helped in organizing the dinner including the well wishers. He introduced the organizing committee after which he noted the major challenges faced in organizing and the proposed solutions.
Among these, he noted that addresses and contacts of many old students were not known or even some were invalid, thus it remains a challenge to locate them. He also noted that the school had two intending guild presidents in their respective universities, that is, Mr. Kabango Bob – Makerere University Kampala (MUK) and Mr. Niwagaba Bright – Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
He delivered apologies from Justice Kanyeihamba and Hon. Matthew Rukikaire for not attending as both had other activities that kept them busy. He further pledged the support of the university community once all plans are set for a grand reunion. He congratulated and recognized Mr. Turyakira Moses Kats for the academic excellence, having been among the top five students at Makerere University in his academic year of 2004/2005.
He concluded by calling upon all old students present to support the idea of forming an ad hoc committee to lay a foundation for the association.
3.2 Representative of the Board of Governors.
The representative of the board of governors, and a member of the organizing committee, Dr. Mnason Tweheyo thanked all the members that attended and called upon every one to always mobilize their former classmates whenever invited for such functions.
He thanked the school for involving old students in the affairs of the school and as the old students’ representative on the school’s Board of Governors, pledged to always stand for the interests of the old students as far as decision making at the school is concerned. He concluded by thanking the organizing committee for the zeal shown in organizing the dinner amidst difficulties.
3.3 Representative of the Headmaster.
The Deputy Headmaster Mr. Muhwezi Robert briefed the old students about the state and affairs of the school. He delivered the Headmaster’s apologies for his inability to be part of the function. He delivered the school’s progress report on the developments done at the school since January 2007. Notable among them were renovations being done on the school buildings and payment of the outstanding debts that the school had been plunged into.
He cited challenges that were being met by the school and inclusive are; lack of enough funds, indiscipline of the students and the lack of enough teaching staff. He presented the senior four results to the audience where the school had 38 students in division 1, 67 in Division 2, 19 in Division 3 and 4 students in Division 4.
He called on the old students to actively participate in the projects to build the school both academically and also concerning infrastructure development. He also noted that the school administration is willing to do all that is possible to enhance the school’s development.
3.4 Hon. David Bahati.
Hon. David Bahati, the existing Patron of the association thanked the organizers for having successfully organized the function despite his unavailability. He noted that the organizers gained the necessary experience by doing the micro and macro organization without his input. He noted that the dinner was the beginning of the drive for the reunion and was very pleased that the old students turned up for the dinner. He promised to invest his energy and talents fully, now that the process had been initiated and he pledged that the reunion would be a very big function.
He called upon all the old students in all professions to always remember and network with their former classmates which he said would make mobilization very easy when there is a function concerning the association.
3.5 Tabling of the proposal.
Dr. Augustus Niwagaba rose to table the proposal such that it could be discussed and recommendations made; He gave a background to the proposal by describing the current state and status of the association. He expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that meetings and the nature of the dinner never have follow up and as a result, every time there is a meeting it is like a new beginning all together instead of building on what was already in place.
He noted that there is need for a structure such that there are people tasked with specific responsibilities to ensure continuity and sustainability. He also noted that without organization, the old students can’t satisfactorily develop the school, thus called upon the old students to form an ad hoc committee tasked with initiating the structures of the association and organizing a reunion where the leaders would be elected and the constitution drafted by the ad hoc committee passed by the general assembly.
3.6 Reactions to the Proposal.
The M/C Mr. Patrick Kiconco called for reactions from the gathering and Hon. Bahati suggested that every one who attended the dinner be made part of the organizing committee as of now and then in a series of other meetings, specific people could be allocated specific duties.
Citing examples from the 2003 reunion, Hon. Bahati explained that before the reunion takes place, several meetings have to take place and it is in those meetings that individuals are assigned specific roles. He clarified that the purpose of the dinner was to initiate the process and that the rest would be done later. He then gestured at the gathering and asked whether they were not in agreement with him.
Mr. Rukundo Isaac, the Makerere University coordinator asked when such a committee would be formed arguing that the dinner was the chance for this cause, which shouldn’t be wasted. Hon. Bahati in reaction reasoned that the people who attended the dinner would attend the reunion organizational meetings and thus they should all be adopted on that proposed committee.
No other member seemed to object, thus the matter was laid to rest.
3.7. Any Other Business.
Dr. Kabann Kabanamukye rose to make a point and emphasized the issue of networking, arguing that individuals of each generation should mobilize old students of their generation.
The M/C promised that the members would be informed of any development as their contacts had been recorded.
3.8. Cutting the cake.
The cake was then sliced and this was done by the occupants of the high table. The cake was served and the members started to interact informally.
A closing prayer was said at 10:30pm and the gathering dispersed.
4.0. Evaluation and Recommendations.
Going by the stated objectives of the dinner, it is our view that much as we did not achieve the ideal, we nevertheless made a mark and hope that we will continue to build on what we have achieved so far, to achieve more.
We thus make the following recommendations for the way forward;
1. That we have a more inclusive committee of volunteers from all generations formed, to be the interim committee of the association.

2. That this committee drafts a constitution for the association and opens a bank account for the same.

3. That in a dinner to be held later on in the year, the members adopt the constitution and agree on the way forward towards the formalization and legitimization of the association’s leadership.
As the organizing committee of the dinner, we pledge our efforts to ensure that the association is formalized, with elected leaders to ensure sustainability, continuity and certainty.
Ours however is to consult more widely such that the outcome of our efforts is a satisfactory position that favors and suits the purpose of the association.

5.0. Appreciation
